The CID has officially closed its investigation into allegations that international businesswoman Niharika Handa and her son Punar Vasu Handa obtained Ghanaian travel documents through false information.

Ghana Police said investigators found no evidence of wrongdoing and closed the case.

MyJoyOnline has seen a police report from the Documentation and Visa Fraud Unit (DVU) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) indicating that the matter arose out of a petition filed by Amar Deep Singh Hari on September 29, 2025.

Documents Requested During Investigation

Authorities examined records of multiple government institutions during the investigation. Police requested documents from a number of institutions including:Passport Office 

National Identification Authority (NIA) 

Ghana Immigration Service 

Registrar-General’s Department

Indian High Commission in Accra 

The investigators examined the documents and records provided by these institutions in their efforts to verify the allegations.

Findings on the Acquisition of Citizenship and Passport Ghanaian Citizenship by Naturalization The study revealed that the two individuals were born in India and acquired Ghanaian citizenship by naturalization.

According to police records

Niharika Handa was naturalised as a Ghanaian citizen on July 8, 2022.

Punar Vasu Handa was naturalized as Ghanaian on 19 December 2023.

Ghana Passport Records Confirmed The report further revealed that:

Niharika Handa was issued a Ghanaian passport on July 22, 2022.

Punarvasu Handa got His Ghanaian passport on 21st May 2024.

After examining all relevant records and supporting documentation, investigators said they found no evidence to substantiate the allegations and therefore closed the case.

Niharika Handa Responds to Investigation Outcome

Reacting to the findings, Mrs. Handa welcomed the outcome and reiterated her trust in Ghana’s justice system and state institutions.

She stated:

“I am grateful to the investigating officers for their thorough and impartial work, and I have complete confidence in the integrity of Ghana’s justice system.”

She further added:

“Out of respect for the legal process, and because related matters remain before the courts and authorities, I do not intend to comment on those proceedings.”

Mrs. Handa continued:

“I am prepared to allow the proper legal channels to do their work, and I trust that the facts will be assessed fairly and in accordance with the law.”

Family Declines Further Public Comment

Mrs. Handa and her son have indicated that they do not intend to make any further public statements regarding matters currently before the courts or under consideration by authorities in Ghana.
